Northampton NS Erasmus History Museum Children at Northampton NS in Kinvara set up a History Museum at the school recently. Parents, Grandparents and local visitors browsed a fantastic variety of exhibits, all gathered by children through their families and the extended community. The event was part of an EU schools partnership project on Podcasting (www.podsol.com) led by Northampton NS staff and sponsored by Erasmus+.
Exhibits included medals from both world wars and the emergency, lots of farming implements, fossils, a Stone Age axe head, a 1947 Ford Prefect, dresses from the Edwardian and Victorian era and a wonderful demonstration from Gerhard the Farrier showing the tools and skills of his trade. Projects on the Follies of Northampton House and Dún Guaire Castle were amongst the many interesting displays by the children.
Aspiring podcasters also took the opportunity to interview Grandparents and visitors on the day in their recording studio. These recordings will form the next project podcast and will be an invaluable resource for local history for years to come. School principal Shane Mc Donagh thanked Ailish Kavanagh from Kinvara FM for the enormous support she has given the project and praised the whole school community for coming together to make the Northampton History Museum an occasion to be treasured. The Coffee Morning, which formed part of the occasion, gathered €1,000 for Galway Hospice.
